The Signature Collection sits above the standard Teknix gas hobs, and the SCGH91B is the 90cm black glass model in that range. Five burners are fitted, among them a 3.8kW side wok burner and a 3.0kW rapid burner, all built by Sabaf in Italy.
Sabaf burners are the specification point here. They are the component most commonly found in higher-priced European hobs, and the difference shows in flame stability at low settings and in how evenly the flame spreads under a pan. Anyone who has fought a burner that will not hold a simmer will understand what is being paid for.
Positioning the wok burner at the side rather than in the centre is deliberate. A large pan sat in the middle of a hob blocks access to everything around it, whereas moved to one side the other burners stay usable. The 3.0kW rapid burner handles the second heavy job.
Cast iron pan supports take heavy cookware and lift off with the knobs for cleaning, and the surface is a single piece of glass. A flame failure safety device cuts the gas if a burner goes out, with electronic ignition from the knob. LPG jets are supplied for bottled gas conversion. The cutout is 84.0 x 48.0cm and the hob measures 86.2 x 50.0 x 5.8cm, a notably shallow profile for a gas hob.
